The film premieres August 27, 2017 at the Regal Cinemas Premier House at LA Live at which time festival winners will be announced.

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, August 16, 2017 / — Los Angeles, CA – The 168 Film Festival will host a very special, free event for disadvantaged and at risk children, ages 5-15 and their families from 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM, Saturday, August 26th at Regal Cinemas LA Live, 1000 W. Olympic Blvd. L.A. CA 90015.

The “168 Kids!” screening is from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM, followed by “selfies with celebs” on the Kids Red Carpet from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Some 168 Kids films were created for kids by kids, like award-winning, ten-year-old writer/director, Rachel Lowry’s film “Lost.” It is based on Matthew 18:12-14. The animated tale is about a young sheep, who learns a valuable lesson when he gets lost.

Neelley Hicks de Harper Hill Global et Firdaus Kharas de Chocolate Moose Media ont de nouveau décidé de s’associer pour venir en aide aux survivants d'une crise africaine. Ils ont fait équipe en 2015 pour une paire de vidéos animées primées traitant de l'épidémie d'Ebola en Afrique de l'Ouest. La nouvelle vidéo fait partie de l'organisation Congo Women Arise de Harper Hill, qui soutient les victimes de viol en essayant d'éliminer la honte que la culture congolaise inflige aux victimes.

«En soulevant la question du pourquoi, l'animation sert de catalyseur pour discuter des conséquences sur la famille et la société provenant de la stigmatisation. Soulever cette question publiquement aide Congo Women Arise à accomplir bien plus qu’avant au sein de l’organisation, déclare Hicks.»

Kharas est devenu maître dans l’art d’utiliser l'animation pour transmettre des informations essentielles d’une manière non-conflictuelle. «Nous essayons de réaliser ce qui est pratiquement impossible, de changer les attitudes profondément ancrées des hommes envers les victimes de viol. Cette vidéo a pour but de permettre aux femmes de soulever des sujets très difficiles et de servir de catalyseur de discussion. Je désire désespérément que cela réussisse, dit-il.»

Hicks, Kharas team up again to re-integrate victims of sexual violence back into family

A video in nine languages that can be understood by at least 90 percent of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s residents is being broadcast three times a day on RTNC, the country’s national broadcaster. French, Lingala, Tshiluba and Swahili versions are on television; English and Otetela are on the Internet. Four other local languages are in the works.

The video is a two-minute, hand-drawn animation called A Plea to My Father dealing with the victims of a decades-long rampage of rape and sexual violence against women throughout the country. In it a young boy desperately wants his father not to blame his mother and sister for being raped and to bring them back into the family. The child seeks to understand “why” the women in the family are shunned as if the violence was their fault.

Neelley Hicks of Harper Hill Global and Firdaus Kharas of Chocolate Moose Media have again partnered to help the survivors of an African crisis. They teamed up in 2015 for a pair of award-winning animated videos dealing with the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. The new video is part of Harper Hill’s Congo Women Arise organization that supports rape casualties by trying to remove the stigma that Congolese culture casts on victims.

“By raising the question ‘why’ the animation serves as a catalyst to discuss consequences on family and society which arise from stigma. It helps Congo Women Arise do more than we ever could within our own walls,” says Hicks.

Kharas is a master of using animation to transmit vital information in a non-confrontational way. “We’re trying to achieve the near-impossible, to change the entrenched attitudes of men towards victims of rape. It’s meant to empower women to bring up very difficult subjects and serve as a catalyst for discussion. I desperately want it to succeed,” he says.
