The Rev. Jay Lawlor, Episcopal priest and author, launches The Power of Love Sermon Project to promote global discussion on Bishop Curry's Royal Wedding sermon.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN, US, June 26, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Millions around the world were inspired by Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s sermon delivered at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Rev. Jay Lawlor believes Bishop Curry's message should not be confined to a single moment in time.
"The sermon was a powerful and inspirational proclamation of loving God and loving neighbor," said Rev. Lawlor, an Episcopal priest and creator of The Power of Love Sermon Project. He continued by stating, "While a sermon at a Christian wedding, by the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, in many ways it transcended religion, culture, and race. The call was to recognize we are part of one human family."
In the sermon, Bishop Curry preached how there is power in love. He referenced Scripture, Martin Luther King, Jr., an African-American spiritual, and Teilhard de Chardin. Bishop Curry spoke of personal and communal love. He encouraged us not to underestimate the power of love, nor to over-sentimentalize it. He asked us to imagine a world where love is the way. Where love is the way in our homes, neighborhoods, business and commerce. Bishop Curry offered a vision of the world when love is the way.
The Power of Love Sermon Project is an invitation to reflect on Bishop Curry’s sermon and the many ways it can inspire a more loving world. The Power of Love Sermon Project's website includes the full text and video of Bishop Curry's sermon, as well as a downloadable discussion guide. A Facebook group has also been established for people to share their reflections.
"My hope is that people will gather in small groups, engage with Bishop Curry’s sermon, and share their reflections on how the sermon both inspires and challenges them," said the Rev. Jay Lawlor when asked his goal for the project. "This project is a way to help promote Bishop Curry's sermon continuing to serve as an inspiration in realizing the power of love in our lives, communities, and world."
The Rev. Jay Lawlor further commented that while the call to love God and love neighbor is not new, Bishop Curry proved an inspirational messenger to a 21st Century world (complete with reading his sermon from an iPad in a 14th Century Gothic chapel). He concluded by commenting, "The overwhelmingly positive response to the sermon, and the resulting ripple-effect of news coverage, is evidence of how much the world needs, and desires, to harness the power of love to heal a broken world."
