CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, USA, October 4, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Every day, human rights issues take up thousands of minutes of TV news and thousands of column inches of print media. To put these issues into the context of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United for Human Rights Center, located at 29 N. Fort Harrison Ave. in Clearwater, is hosting a series of free weekly seminars. The seminars are held each Wednesday at 7:30pm.
“We cover a variety of topics,” said Cristian Vargas, the Executive Director of United for Human Rights Florida. “These include human trafficking, bullying, the freedom of expression, women’s rights and workers’ rights.”
“Per Human Rights Watch’s 2017 report, an estimated 32 percent of women in the US have suffered physical violence from an intimate partner,” added Vargas. “In a 2017 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 19% of students in grades 9–12 report being bullied in school. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is supposed to guarantee the right to life and the right to live in a discrimination-free environment. When people don’t know their rights, abuses occur.”
United for Human Rights’ Florida Chapter utilizes the Universal Declaration as part of its educational programs and consistently works with some 60 civil and human rights groups to raise awareness of modern-day slavery. Over the past year, United for Human Rights has helped educate more than 50,000 people on their human rights in the Clearwater and Tampa areas.
United for Human Rights and its programs are based on principles expressed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, who in 1969 observed, "Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream."
The Church of Scientology sponsors this human rights education and public information campaign.
