Drug education training offered by the Church of Scientology Kansas City

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, November 30, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Anyone wishing to take action on the drug problem affecting Kansas City is invited to attend a Drug-Free World training session at the Church of Scientology on Saturday, November 30, at 18th and Grand Blvd in Kansas City, Missouri. Those interested in attending should call the Church at (816) 753-6590 for times and directions.

The training was organized based on the success of last week’s drug prevention open house and seminar at the Church, which focused on The Truth About Drugs, the interactive program of Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

“We held this open house to raise awareness about the need for action,” said Church Public Affairs Director Bennette Seaman.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), every dollar spent on effective school-based drug education and prevention programs could save $18. And that is not even factoring in the toll drugs take on the lives of abusers and their families.

The program last weekend featured a firefighter and former police officer who shared real-life stories about drug abuse. Those attending were engaged by the presentation and asked questions.

The Truth About Drugs program is one of the humanitarian initiatives the Church of Scientology supports.

“The program is set up to provide the facts because when people learn the truth about drugs, they can make their own self-determined decision to live drug-free,” said Seaman.

The Truth About Drugs materials and training on how to successfully use them is available at the Church of Scientology of Kansas City, at their new location, 1805 Grand Blvd, in Kansas City, Mo. Anyone wishing to learn more is invited to visit the Public Information Center in the Church lobby, which is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Church of Scientology and Scientologists support Foundation for a Drug-Free World and make these materials available free of charge to anyone wishing to use them to handle the drug-abuse epidemic. After extensive social research, author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard called drugs “the single most destructive element present in our current culture.”

Scientology Information Center Delivers Talk on Scientology and tour of the Fort Harrison to Local College Students

Ms. Amber Skjelset, Scientology Information Center Manager delivering a presentation to students from St. Pete College religion and philosophy classes on Saturday, November 23rd. The Scientology Information Center hosts regular events and receptions for

CLEARWATER, FL, UNITED STATES, November 28, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Saturday November 23rd, students and guests from a religious studies class at St. Pete College’s Clearwater Campus visited the Scientology Information Center in downtown Clearwater for a talk about Scientology and tour of the Fort Harrison. Their purpose was to learn more about Scientology, the world’s youngest major religion of the 20th Century.

Ms. Amber Skjelset, the manager of the Center, welcomed the guests, and provided a description of the basic principles of Scientology. This included viewing an episode from the Scientology TV Network called, “My Philosphy,” giving insight into the founding of Scientology by L. Ron Hubbard.

After lunch, the students attended the Fort Harrison’s monthly historic tour. There they learned that: the iconic building was built during Clearwater’s land boom in the 1920s; visited the “palatial” 11th floor Penthouse where the Rolling Stones once stayed in 1965; and learned how the Fort Harrison was Pinellas County’s first skyscraper.

In addition to visiting the Fort Harrison’s well-appointed spaces, guests learned how Church partners with local non-profits providing support to their causes by sponsoring their events. This assists registered 501c3s to retain 100% of the funds they raise to further their charitable causes.

One guest and long-term resident said after the experience,
“I’ve lived in Clearwater since the ‘70s and I learned a lot of things today that I didn’t know about the Church. I enjoyed finding out the commonality of all religions – which the professor had us keep in mind during the presentation. I am really glad I came and got to see inside the Fort Harrison. I saw it in the ‘70s it’s nice to see it again. I can't wait to go back and tell everyone about this.”

The Scientology Information Center is open daily from 10am-10pm for self-guided tours. Group presentations and similar tours for the community can be scheduled at the Center by contacting the Manager, Ms. Amber Skjelset, at 727-467-6966 or e-mail her at amber@cos.flag.org.
The Info Center consistently applies, “Respect the religious beliefs of others,” from L. Ron Hubbard’s The Way to Happiness, a non-religious, common-sense moral code when inviting all to visit the Center.

THE SCIENTOLOGY INFORMATION CENTER:

The Scientology Information Center, located in the century-old Clearwater Building in downtown Clearwater, opened on July 11, 2015, and currently houses a gallery of audiovisual displays with some 400 videos. The Center is open to all and provides a self-guided tour showing basic Scientology beliefs, Churches around the world, ongoing social programs and the life of L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology’s founder. The Center offers tours to the broad public and civic leaders; holds concerts, theatrical performances and receptions for the community; and opens up the use of its conference room to social, civic and non-profit groups.

THE FORT HARRISON:

The Fort Harrison serves as the international religious retreat for the Church of Scientology. With more than 11,000 Scientology Churches, Missions and groups spanning six continents, Scientologists come to Clearwater from all over the world for religious training and ministerial services. The Fort Harrison is made available to community groups and charities for their special events and fundraisers. Scientology is an applied religious philosophy based on the work of L. Ron Hubbard.

Tackling the Challenges of Foster Families Together

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, US, November 28, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — As a member of the Tampa Bay Charity Coalition, for her dedicated volunteer hours given to foster parents and children in Pinellas County, she was awarded alongside fellow Charity Coalition members at the 5th Annual Charity Coalition Anniversary in the Fort Harrison auditorium.

Established by the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization in 2014, the Charity Coalition has grown to over 200 members of nonprofits across the Tampa Bay area.

“It was great to stand up there with people who are all there with the same purpose,” says Starling, “to make the world a better place.” Two of her sons were also awarded, alongside other children who volunteered in their spare time, as Certified Smile Makers.

“What foster children go through, no one should have to go through,” says Dora Starling, president and former board member of the Pinellas County Foster and Adoptive Parents Association (PCFAPA), who describes foster children as unique compared to other youth.

“They get the brunt of the bad choices made by their parents. Imagine if someone came into your home, took you away from your family and put you with a bunch of strangers. They don’t realize that they’re being kept safe.”

Founded in 1974, PCFAPA is a nonprofit organization started by a group of foster parents who wanted to help support other foster parents. According to Starling there are 142 foster families that are members of PCFAPA.

PCFAPA’s mission is to provide quality training, support and activities for member foster and adoptive families and to provide parents with the necessary resources to deal with the many challenges they face in raising the future of the community.

Being a foster parent of six children herself, adopted five, Starling knows the challenges firsthand. She says that one of the most common challenges today is time. “It’s our enemy,” says Starling. “These kids need so much more of it,” between undiagnosed medical conditions and then taking them to school “and spending extra time in school with them.

“Then there are our resources. If anyone says that foster parents do it for the money, they’re wrong. We get minimal amounts for each kid and I know foster parents that end up buying a three to four bedroom home,” just to make room for the kids they already have. “Foster children deserve people that will pour their hearts out into them.”

To help PCFAPA with their purpose of providing different activities to alleviate foster parents of different challenges in raising their child, the Clearwater Community Volunteers (CCV) has hosted several events for foster families.

For 27 years, CCV has been putting on events for the Clearwater community for all families and children to enjoy and as a way to come together. “CCV exists to help children and provide hope for their future,” says Pam Ryan Anderson, president of CCV. “So when we found out about the Back to School Bash for foster children, we knew what we had to do¬¬––we voted unanimously to buy the backpacks and hundreds of notebooks. It’s out hope that every child has the basics that they need to help them get a good education.”

All 240 backpacks were filled with supplies and distributed to children in the Osceola Courtyard which had a wide variety of endless entertainment: live music, face painting, a carousel and a bouncy house.

Another special event was PCFAPA’s annual baby shower in July, which was hosted in the CCV Center on Fort Harrison Avenue and Drew Street. Foster families got to exchange gifts of diapers, clothing and baby formula and kids painted window ornaments for their parents.

“We had so many of our foster parents there,” says Starling. “It was nice to have a day with your family and relax and to be around people you know genuinely care.”

Educating Pakistani Youth on Their Human Rights

Youth for Human Rights believes human rights education can improve the lives of Pakistani youth.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, November 27, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — On the eve of the 71st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, December 10, Pakistan’s youth lag behind most countries for education and other basic rights. According to the KidsRights Index, an annual global index that ranks how countries adhere to and are equipped to improve children’s rights, of 183 countries ranked, Pakistan was found at 154.

An article in the Daily Pakistan last year estimated “around 10 million Pakistani kids have to work to help their families at school-going age. Many are sold as domestic servants who are treated as slaves with no rights.” It also points out that the majority of Pakistani children have to toil in the agriculture sector without compensation while others work at workshops. They are denied an education that could improve their chances of becoming employed.

While the government is working to right these issues, the problem is systemic, driven by poverty and the huge proportion of the population comprised of children or young adults. Nearly a third of the country is younger than 15 and more than 50 percent under 25.

Youth for Human Rights believes that vital to improving conditions for children is educating those who are in school on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. By understanding that the 30 rights enshrined in the document belong to all people, young and old, they will become advocates for programs that provide these rights to all segments of the population.

In one community, where most of the children work as laborers in the brick kilns, educating those attending school on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights resulted in 35 who were working in the kilns returning to school, as the students reached out to help their friends. That was just a start in one community, but it shows the power of making these rights known.

Youth for Human Rights International is the youth component of United for Human Rights (UHR), an international, not-for-profit organization dedicated to implementing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at local, regional, national and international levels. Its membership is comprised of individuals, educators and groups throughout the world who are actively forwarding the knowledge and protection of human rights by and for all Mankind.

The Church of Scientology and Scientologists support Youth for Human Rights and make its educational materials available free of charge. Watch the public service announcements that bring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to life to children the world over on the Scientology Network.

AMCD Lends Cautious Support for Admin Proposal to Tie Aid to Religious Freedom

North Korean prison camp

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, November 27, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The American Mideast Coalition for Democracy supports the Administration’s proposal for conditioning foreign aid to the state of religious freedom in those countries receiving aid from the US government.

“The devil is in the details, as with any new proposal,” said AMCD co-chair, Tom Harb. “However, freedom of thought, belief, and conscience, are basic to our understanding of our God-given rights. Freedom of belief is a basic human right that should never be taken away.”

“This over-arching principle will create a way to orient US policy which is consistent with American values,” said AMCD vice-chair, Hossein Khorram. “We oppose those philosophies which require forced conformity from the people, such as communism and Islamic government. Both systems require citizens to limit their own thoughts, speech and actions in order to conform to a specific philosophy.”

“I think it's what the US stands for, religious liberty, and should be reflected in our aid and foreign policy,” said AMCD co-chair, John Hajjar. “US policy has been schizophrenic for years and this could be the guiding principle rather than realpolitik, even though national security will still take precedence. Over-all I think it could be very useful in guiding our foreign policy.”

“The rule of law must be applied to individuals, not to groups,” added AMCD Secretary Rebecca Bynum. “This is what separates Western civilization from thought-systems like communism or Islamic government where the law is applied according to membership in a group. We cannot help but regard this as basically unfair and unjust. Freedom of religion is a good yardstick by which to measure freedom in general and we should always favor freedom.”

राजपक्षे के अमेरिका के तमिलों के दौरे पर जाने के लिए प्रधान मंत्री मोदी को खुला पत्र।

Prime Minister Modi

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, November 27, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ —

Response to Gotta Rajapaksa’s Invitation for Tamil Diaspora: Tamils for Trump

Sri Lankan President Gotta Rajapaksa

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, November 27, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — All Tamils want a permanently protected northeast with self-rule for Tamils. The world can allow new Sri Lankan President Gotta Rajapaksa 100 days to establish a protected north-east for Tamils, but that is all. We need the U.S. to ensure that he keeps any promises he makes to Tamils.

Tamils have not forgotten what Rajapaksa did in 2009 to the Tamils. He killed 145,000 Tamils, made 80,000 Tamil widows and 50,000 orphans, permitted the rape of thousands of Tamil young men and women and the White Van abductions of thousands of Tamils, engineered the ruthless killing of the Tamils and the occupation by ruthless Sinhalese military in the north-east, allowed the Sinhalese settlement and erection of many Buddhist symbols in the north-east, and oversaw many other unbearable tragedies suffered by the Tamil people.

Tamils overwhelmingly did not vote for Gotta Rajapaksa due to a profound fear that he is a ruthless human being and soulless monster. In 2009 and beyond, Gotta fed the swordfish that devoured the Tamils’ body and he had the swordfish for his lunch. It shows that how much he hates Tamils and the extent of his evil.

During the past 70 years of Sinhalese deception and killing of the Tamils, Tamils have never wanted to live with Sinhalese in a Unitary State.

All this violence and killing committed by the Sinhalese is a traumatic event in our culture that has instilled in Tamils a thanatophobia akin to almost dying or the death of a loved one. It is not something that can be forgotten or forgiven.

There are 2 million Tamils living outside of Sri Lanka. Most of them are well-educated, wealthy, enjoying the freedom and peace of democracy in the refugee country.

These diaspora Tamils will never forget what Rajapaksa’s government has done to their parents, children, grandparents, friends and countless other Tamils. The diaspora Tamils have many connections to international communities and decision makers. They have soft power and if they wanted, they could have hard power as well.

A Bosnian-style federalism in which lethal weapons have been stripped from the Tamils and Sinhalese will permanently protect free and prosperous states for Sinhalese and Tamils that can be developed on the island.

The wisest course of action is to ask the Tamils what kind of government Tamils need by holding a UN-monitored referendum.

Open Letter to Prime Minister Modi Upon Rajapaksa's Visit by US Tamils

Prime Minister Modi

During the war in 2009, India had promised 13 plus for the Tamils. No one from India has yet to come to implement the 13th plus amendment.

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, November 26, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — November 27, 2019

Prime Minister Modi,
Prime Minister Office,
South Block,
Raisina Hill,
New Delhi-110011

Dear Prime Minister Modi,

We the Tamils are writing this letter on the eve of Sri Lankan President Gotta Rajapaksa’s visit to India. We hope you will inform Mr. Gotta Rajapaksa of India’s willingness to implement 13 plus . The 13th amendment is the only leverage India has with Tamils. India should not lose it. Modi should request Sri Lanka to stop the new constitution.

During the war in 2009, India had promised 13 plus for the Tamils. No one from India has yet to come to implement the 13th plus amendment.

First of all, we the Tamils from the United States and behalf of the Tamils in Sri Lanka want to congratulate you for your amazing success in the polls. It is the first time under your leadership that the BJP won the Indian parliamentary election consecutively two times.

We want to wish you and your country continued success in the next five years of your rule and beyond.

Mr. Prime Minister, you promised cooperative federalism for the Tamils when you were in Jaffna. The Tamils are still waiting for your assurance and fulfillment of cooperative federalism for the Tamils.

The Tamil people continue to suffer from the effects of government repression, military occupation, Sinhalese sexual assault on young Tamils, and Sinhala settlement in the Tamils’ native lands.

The Tamils in the northeast are losing their cultural identity. The Sinhalese are destroying Hindu historical temples and Hindu symbols. The Tamils’ land and farms are taken by the Sinhalese.

We wonder what happened to the India that pioneered 13th amendment. We still think that the Tamil speaking majority province in the northeast should be one Tamil province or Tamil state as India did designed the political constitution in 1947. All of India's 29 states were formed based on their language. For instance, Tamil Nadu for Tamil speaking people, Kerala for Malayalam speaking people, etc.

Tamils want a protected and self-rule in the North-east. If India insists on Federalism, then Sri Lanka should have only two states: one for Tamils and the second one for Sinhalese.

It is always advisable to have a referendum to find out whether Tamils want a Unitary State or Federalism or Separation. UN sponsored referenda have had many success stories in South Sudan, Kosovo, East Timor and many places, and with India's participation under your guidance this can also happen in Sri Lanka.

Sincerely,
Tamils for Trump
