Stockholm Mosque Gets Targeted in Islamophobic Attack

(MENAFN) A disturbing incident occurred at the Stockholm Mosque in Sweden on Sunday, where officials reported finding a desecrated copy of the Muslim holy book.

According to the mosque’s administration, the Quran was discovered chained to the stair railings, bearing six bullet holes.

Speaking to a news agency, Mahmud al-Halefi, chairman of the mosque, highlighted that Islamophobic and racist attacks have been steadily increasing across Sweden. He confirmed that police have opened an investigation and noted the strong reactions from the Muslim community.

Condemning the act, al-Halefi stated: “A copy of the Quran was chained to the railing next to the stairs leading to the mosque, and it had six bullet holes. There were also messages written in Arabic and Swedish on the Quran saying, ‘Thanks for the visit, but it’s time to go home.’ We perceived this message as an explicit racist statement targeting Muslims.”

He emphasized that the attack was profoundly offensive and part of a wider trend of anti-Muslim hostility. Al-Halefi urged authorities to adopt firm measures against hate crimes and to guarantee the protection of religious communities.
