Sheriff's Office Investigates Suspicious Package at Church

On May 23, 2026 the Granville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious package at a church located at 3180 Bruce Garner Road. Church staff reported that an unknown individual had left a package on the front porch of the church. Prior to law enforcement arrival, the package had been taken inside the building by church personnel.

The Granville County Sheriff’s Office, Granville County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Brassfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene to assess the situation and ensure the safety of church staff and the surrounding community.

Based on the facts known at the time and out of an abundance of caution, the Granville County Fire Marshal requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit. Additional resources responded, including North Carolina Emergency Management and the City of Raleigh Fire Department Hazardous Materials Response Team.

Specialized personnel examined the package and conducted a thorough assessment. The investigation determined that the item did not pose an explosive, chemical, or biological threat.

There is no ongoing danger to the public related to this incident. The Sheriff’s Office appreciates the cooperation of church staff and the coordinated response of all participating agencies, whose professionalism and expertise helped ensure the safety of everyone involved.
